Movies The whole "hottest" woman thing is ridiculous and shallow of course (and we should mention, men as well) but no use fighting something bigger than ourselves. I certainly don't want to contribute to the sexist-gender objectification-shallowness of these things by selling Aniston short. She's a person, after all, and perfectly fine looking. But. I mean, I have to say, after that pc qualifer, but still...still, Jennifer Aniston the hottest woman of "all time?!" All time???????!!!!

Olay Site: Personal Care System

In my fifites, and I need help. I go to the magic facial cream aisle, and walk away without buying anything because I'm so confused and overwhelmed. So far, I've been using a daily mosturizer with sunscreen, exfoliant, facial cleansing soap at night, and whatever night creams my mother or girlfriends pass on to me. Oh, and I use the rolly ball thingie; the Garnier anti puff eye treatment, which is fun and it does seem to help.

Determined to go back into the confusing magic face cream realm and come away with at least a good firming wrinkle banishing (or at least, diminishing) face cream, I went to the Olay site. They have a nice system over there where you answer questions about your personal skin type, your style, your needs, and they make recommendations based on that. They've very aware of the overwhelm factor; for people like myself, with adult ADHD, it's very soothing. Calming background music, soothing female voice assuring you there's no pressure, lol.

So I came away with a "plan" and I'll report back on the results. I do like Olay products; I have sensitive skin and some brands I just can't tolerate but with Olay, I haven't had any problems.

For my particular style and needs, they recommend the Definity line.

A Dress A Day: From Ugly Thrift Store Finds to Style

  Marisa Lynch was inspired by the film Julie and Julia, that, and being laid off, to transform ugly thrift store dresses into stylish pieces:

Think the uber-frugal budget and tight turnaround requirements can only mean shoddy, unfashionable duds? Not for Marisa. All you have to do is take a quick glance at New Dress A Day to see that while this West Hollywood resident may be short on money and time, she’s never short on style.

I love it; I wish I could do that. I love thrift store shopping but the most I'll do is maybe change buttons or something like that. I'm not a sewer by any means, but admire those that are creative with needle and thread.

The Traveling Red Dress on The Bloggess Blog

I love this blog: The Bloggess; I found it thanks to Deirdre O'Lavery of The Interstellar Housewife, a blog I also love. The dress is beautiful, and I agree that it's impractical, and very very red, but I would wear it! Bloggess writes, of the poppy red dress:

For one thing, it’s not sensible.  It’s impractical.  It’s bright red and vibrant and shocking and “inappropriate for a woman my age”.  And I have no shoes to go with it.  And I have no place to wear it.

I'd find a place to wear it, and one thing about getting older, once you realize you're not going to wake up one morning and suddenly find yourself magically 21 again, (or a size 9) you say "fuck it" and do what you damn well please. There's more to the article than just the red dress; it's also about what the red dress inspires.  Anyway, the entire blog is witty, funny and check it out.

The Shake Weight

That's right, I bought one! And it's great. Silly, but great. I use it in the morning, and work out on the bike/elliptical thing in the evening.

I bought it at Target, which was good; I didn't have to order it and wait, etc. It comes with a short DVD which is easy to follow. Six minutes or so, really, and you can really feel it as you work out with it! It doesn't use batteries or anything; it's just the one weight that you, well, shake.

The advertising proudly announces that the Shake Weight has been featured on the Ellen DeGeneres show. Well, yes, it has, but not exactly what you'd think; this is pretty funny. I love Queen Latifah's handling of the thing:

Still, the thing works, and that's all I care about. I don't feel ripped off or anyting, it's easy to use, and that's what matters to me when it comes to things like this.

Fleece Skirts and Hats

A woman at work was wearing the greatest skirt; a long skirt made out of fleece. Very warm and comfy, but looked good too. I've also seen her in a great hat; fleece, leopard print.  They're made by a woman in Oregon; here's here website: fleeceskirts.com.

You can choose your color and pattern, or they'll do custom work. I'm going to order the blue skirt, though I'm torn between the olive and some of the prints. Hmm, wait, maybe I'll do the leopard print!

A Totally Girlie Day

Today was a totally girlie day, and it was great! My friend "Lola" who lives fifty miles from me, is a full time student, works, a mom and wife -- we don't get the chance to see each other like we used to. But today was a fun, totally girlie day. She was in town, visiting with a relative from out of state. Lola has been trying to get us to meet all these years, and I can see why; as soon as we met, it was like we've known each other forever.

So Lola gives me a call this morning, tells me they're getting pedicures at the mall, and for me to join them.

I've never had a pedicure! Not ever. I always thought they were too bourgeois or something. But I went and did it and got the manicure too. It was great! Soooooo relaxing. Now I'm hooked and plan on doing this all the time. Naturally we had to get more girlie and take pictures of our feet. (I'm the one with the green nails.) Then we had lunch. Then we browsed a few antique stores -- earrings and a Dean Koontz book -- and then we went back to the mall and shopped. Not only did I do something I've never done before; the pedicure, but bought a ridiculous pair of Fossil "Reesa" style sunglasses with rhinestones and metallic glittery things in the tortie frames for five bucks (usually retails around $35.00) I love them!

A perfect girlie day in every way; good friends, pretty feet, silly shades.

Update: I'm not kidding, after I posted this, I turned off the computer, put it away, went back into the bedroom, turned on the TV, and a commericial was running, one I hadn't seen before. The commerical? Yes, that's right! This very one!

So wear it! The red dress has a reputation for being, well, what it is, for a reason. You floozy you.

According to this article in Every day Science, women who wear red attract the men. I'm really Rosie: Men more amorous towards ladies in red

Men were more eager to bed women wearing red than those decked out in other colors, according to five studies involving 149 men and 32 women published today in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. The men also judged those women as more attractive than those sans red duds.

"I'm not going to let my 16-year-old daughter wear red, let's put it that way," says study author Andrew Elliot, a professor of psychology at the University of Rochester. "I do think a female who's interested in a male and going on a date ought to pull that red shirt out of the closet, because most likely it will make her more attractive to him."

I think black is pretty sexy too for both men and women, maybe more me, I'm just guessing. Don't know if any study has been done, though wouldn't be surprised. But I agree, red is a sexy and good color!

Smashing Katie was created when Angie and her husband split up due to his affair with her friend Katie.

Bless Angie who took that painful experience and decided to get revenge and earn a profit at the same time!

Many items at Smashing Katie are break up related, like voodoo dolls, the after break-up wheel of wisdom and the wedding ring coffin.
